Introduction After reading A Christmas Carol I learned that anyone can change a person's life by just doing something little. Anything can help but you should actually know that you’re helping. One of the articles we read called Act of Kindness by K. Querry is about a student giving shoes to another student because heś being made fun of. K. Querry states, ¨Many people try to fit in with the right clothes and the right friends but not having these things can make you a target for bullies,¨ (Querry, 2014) By doing research on what people need you can know that you’re actually helping instead of hurting. We are planning on helping the homeless of San Diego. I think helping the homeless is important because I think most of the homeless don’t have basic needs. Especially around this time when it’s getting colder and they don’t have warm clothes or blankets. This cause is important to me personally because whenever I’m downtown and I see the homeless people asking for money I feel really bad because I don’t have anything to give them. But by preparing and handing out care packages I can actually give them something, instead of money, that will help them.
Method Our idea is to ask large companies (ex. Costco, Walmart, Target) for donations and collect food, blankets and clothes to put together care packages and pass them out to the homeless on the streets of San Diego. Our idea is feasible because it can be easily executed and a big help if we get enough supplies and donations. Our idea is helpful because a lot of homeless get turned away from shelters because they don’t have enough space or supplies to help everyone. So we want to help the homeless that don’t get any help from the shelters because we feel that they need it the most. This idea will be enjoyable because. by passing them out, we get to see exactly where all of our hard work is going. We are collect supplies from our companies now, we received $50 from Costco so far and we already have food.
We are calling Walmart today, December 9th in 3rd period.
We are planning to go and hand out our care packages on Sunday, December 13th at 2:00.
We are going to put the care packages together on Sunday, December 13th at 9:00.

On Sunday, Sam and I went to Ralph’s to get bread and then we went over to Dani’s house to make the care packages. At Dani’s house we made a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches. We had more sandwiches than anything else so we decided to put two sandwiches in each care package. We decided to put everything else in the care packages in one giant ziplock bag. Each care package has two sandwiches, a bottle of water, a toothbrush, toothpaste, two to three granola bars, underwear, socks, and a snickers. Then we went to downtown San Diego, it was really cool because as soon as we got out of the car the homeless people started lining up so we could hand out our care packages and the clothes Sam brought. Everyone was really grateful, it was just sad because we ran out of stuff to hand out really fast. But then I went up to a homeless man and asked him what his top priorities for supplies would be, like what does he think homeless people need the most? He said that anything helps even the little things like food and water.
Discussion
Some things that went well were that we seemed to help a lot of people and it was really cool listening to one man’s stories. If I were to plan differently I would say something I would want to change would be to not have the care packages pre made. We could’ve set up tables or stations and then people could’ve just taken what they needed. I also think we should’ve brought more sandwiches and water just because a lot of people were asking for small things like that. The biggest takeaway I learned from helping is that the little things can make a big difference. The step that helped me realize this was when we passed out the care packages to the homeless and talked to one man about his life. This is the most important thing I learned because it helped me realized that I don’t have to do a lot to help people, like we could go out and buy like ten loaves of bread for fifteen dollars and just get peanut butter and jelly from Costco and it would be under twenty dollars and we can help make a lot of people's day.
