To keep my power I will take care of myself by managing my emotions and stress, to preserve my brain health. I have learned that our brain controls homeostasis, most things we do is for our body to maintain homeostasis. For example our body wants to maintain a temperature between 97-99 degrees Fahrenheit, so when we sweat it's our body trying to cool down by opening our glands and when we shiver is our body trying to generate heat to warm us up. The illness most relevant to my story would be drugs or addiction because it impairs your brain's ability to communicate with the body by affecting the neurons. If your brain can’t communicate with your body then it's hard for you to react, maintain homeostasis or in some cases move. Stress is also very relevant to my story because it produces cortisol which can damage brain cells in the hippocampus, and it’s been proven that chronic stress can result in premature brain aging. To stay healthy I’m staying away from drugs and alcohol which in turn will make sure I’m not affected by addiction. I’m trying to manage my stress by using a planner to plan out my assignments and make sure I’m setting time aside for fun and sleep as well as homework, also communicating with my teachers about assignments and group work if I’m struggling so I don’t feel like all the responsibility falls on my shoulders.
My mind map of the nervous system. It includes words and definitions I studied on Quizlet, illnesses that affect the nervous system, how to keep the nervous system healthy, and the process of how the nervous system works.
